Waiting for a final order number and vendor from you edumacated gentlemen so I can get that young man his parts. We need to hear that engine make Sweet NOISE!!

Before you pull the trigger, how did you end up lightly grinding a seat and removing (.030" from it? memory)
Are they all the same withing .005" or so?
Drop all your valves on the same seat to check for thick/thin ones or are they laid out to a blueprint?
Use dykem high spot for contact pattern?
Everything A-OK and a height established that covers everything needed?

[What is final installed height? I guess you probably didn't grind off .030" more but I would suspect something wasn't/isn't seated straight to get the drastic difference. That amount isn't because they are seated deeper. ]

Sorry I haven't replied in so long guys, my girlfriend's dad hurt his back at work, herniated a few discs, cracked one, and pinched a nerve, and then somehow staff/mersa infection worked its way into his back, knees, and shoulder. He's in tough shape, almost died if they hadn't operated on him immediately. I flew up to Chicago and spent the last few days with them. He's stable now.

I apologize, I got the 1.960" reading with stock Cad retainers and locks, not SBC retainers.

Good Deal!

Somebody (Dave, 8ad-f85) let me know which valve springs to order up; and CaddyCrosley shoot me by private message your mailing address and particulars. I'll pay for those springs and have them sent to your address. Does that work for everybody?

I'm excited to see your college project move forward!! Somebody's has too! :D

Best,

d

Not really trying to quote myself here but wanted to be sure that before Dave Brode bailed out of here that he, 8ad-f85 and CaddyCrosley all SETTLE on a final product so I can do as I said and get CC his valve springs.

Old man d, trying to be a man of his word!!!

Howdy CaddyCrosley,

Just checking in to see what progress you've been able to make. Last we heard you were detained by "life" happening, - something we have all dealt with from time to time. I hope that your girl friend's father came through his ordeal okay and that you haven't lost interest in your project. There are times to back away for a while to get a new perspective and new energy and I hope such has been the case for you.

Catch us up when you can.

Hello everybody,

Thank you for your concern Bro. D., he pulled through and has made a strong recovery, although he is now permanently on disability.

As far as the project, I have made good progress on it in the last year. I know you probably all saw my woes with trying to get it to fire - I re-stabbed the dizzy one last time, I think I was a tooth off, and it still wasn’t firing. Stepped away to eat dinner, came back and got to looking at it, and realized I had left the power wire to the coil off. *doy*. Connected that and it fired off instantly.

Since then I have been focusing on getting the body put together and getting it to a driveable point. Once I have the floors finished, all I need to do it make a few body mounts, have a driveshaft shortened for it, figure out the steering, shift linkage, finish up the brakes, plumb and wire everything, and it will be driveable. After that I can focus on the details.

I still have yet to order valve springs and locks. I’ve also started wondering if I should go ahead and invest in MTS’s entry level shaft rocker system while they’ve got a sale going on.

Anywho, here’s how she sits as of August, I’ve done more work since this photo but it’s the most recent one I have. I’ll try to upload a clip of it running in a bit as well.

Howdy Caddy Crosley,

I'm glad to hear that your girl friend's pappy pulled through. I'm also pleased to know that you have joined the, "Oh, I forgot to hook that up" club! Having juice to the coil has been found to cure many a malady (I am a club member) !!

I love the look of your project. That picture brought a large instant smile to this old face. Please tell me it is REALLY going to have dualies on the rear ???

My offer to buy those valve springs still stands. Whether your funds have improved or worsened, my offer remains the same. PM me with any details and we'll go from there.

Best,

bro. d
Lol, I won't make you scour my previous posts. It's going into a rat rod, Crosley body on a modified D350 chassis. Will weigh (by my estimates) around 2500 lbs, with fuel and driver/passenger. I'm at 1,500 ft of altitude.
Thank you.

With that light weight and low altitude you can be much more aggressive with the cam. There will be more than enough low end torque to make your ride very interesting. The issue then becomes the very items you've brought up: the camshaft and valve springs. Tell you what, you pony up for the camshaft, listen to Dave and 8ad-F85 for their suggestions on the profile, and I’ll buy you the new valve springs. Will that work? :) I was a broke college student once. Come to think of it, I was a lot of things – once. :(

I'm glad I'm not the only one to miss something so stupidly simple...

Lol, yessir, the duals are staying - down the line when I can afford tires, I'll probably throw some meaty mud grips on there just for the look ;) I've got a decent amount of work left to do (finish the floor structure and build body mounts, have the driveshaft shortened, finish the brake system, figure out the steering setup, wire/plumb everything) but my goal is to road trip it out to Rat City Rukkus in Vegas on April 19th. That will be the ultimate test of my skills and ability, if what I built from scratch can drive 1200 miles and back without any major failures. I am excited to get back to working on it and get it finished.

Darius, I don't know if you truly understand how thankful I am. It's amazing to have such a wonderful, helpful community around something as simple as an engine. Really restores a guy's faith in humanity, y'know? :p

Here's to the Cadillac community.

Cheers,

Lane

Very cool Crosley!

What are you going to do for steering ?

Roy

PC 590 or PC 600

I don't know who wrote those cam parameters I can also say it's way conservative

I know basic specs on the above cams and they are good also on shelf in 108 and 106 lsa

I concur. The 108 LSA just makes the top end better, and sounds nasty too!

Snacky Snack likes 108, and so do I...

She made me do this, and says I just need to drink shut up juice.

Bro. Roy and Snacky Snack
